Our Methods

Classes cater for varied students:

  • Students interested in a selected target language but do not speak it
  • Students who understand but cannot or are not confident to speak in a target language
  • Students speak a little of a target language and are looking to improve their proficiency
  • Students who speak a lot of the target language and are looking to looking to improve reading and writing skills
  • Students who need extra tutoring support

Our methods aim:

  • To build communicative skills of speaking and listening, reading and writing
  • To apply techniques of total physical response through the use of music and creative movement
  • To encourage and empower students to express themselves in their new language
  • To infuse various cultural aspects of the target language in the teaching content
  • To adapt to the learning needs and styles of each age group

Levels Taught Offered

We offer classes at various levels:

  • Beginner classes focus on introducing a new language and the confidence to use it
  • Intermediate classes focus on improving spoken and (age-appropriate) written language for everyday use.
  • Advanced classes focus on building fluency and (age-appropriate) analysing spoken and written language.

 

Beginner

  • Can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type.
  • Can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment).
  • Can introduce themselves and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where he/she lives, people they know and things they have.
  • Can interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.
  • Can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters.
  • Can describe in simple terms aspects of their background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.

Intermediate

  • Can understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in their field of specialization.
  • Can deal with most situations likely to arise while travelling in an area where the language is spoken.
  • Can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
  • Can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.

Advanced

  • Can understand with ease virtually everything heard or read.
  • Can summarize information from different spoken and written sources, reconstructing arguments and accounts in a coherent presentation.
  • Can express themselves spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in the most complex situations.

All levels taught at Rera Language School are aimed to be completed in 80 teaching hours. However, achievement of the outlined outcomes are only possible with self-study as well as significant practice outside class times.
